Development Vision
This is a discussion document, to be used as input for an IRC meeting. It lists a number of things which could happen, but it's in no way binding.
Note: once an idea has been discussed and approved, please move it into our Bug Tracker
2.2 -> 2.3
- merge ISO generation with Matt's live-cd work
- provide regular snapshots based on this merged version
- introduce public wiki
- discuss release process (see Simone's mail in crux-devel)
2.3 release
- ISO based on Matt's live-cd work merged earlier
- x11r7
- extensions to setup to support groups of packages
- gcc 4.1
- glibc 2.4
- non-root modes for pkgmk and ports
- Add section to the handbook
- (maybe) Make it the standard way
- stripped package selection
- PKGMK_{PACKAGE,SOURCE}_DIR used by default
- iputils, iproute2, iana-etc
- replace sendmail with postfix/exim/yoursuggestionhere
- exim: no pre/post-install crap, runs sane/secure with default config, easy configuration although nearly anything is possible, can use text files for alias etc. (jue)
Later 2.x
- Work with the architecture maintainers on a multi-arch solution
- Introduce attribute based pkgutils
- SQL based ports db
