add a cdrom group for udev and possibility of renaming it to something more informative of say 'burner' or 'optical' group.

and then opt ports can take advantage of this with a sid bit set.

Like i have done with cdrdao and cdrecord as examples. I've got thsi system now and has been working fine for a very long time.

chown root:cdrom $PKG/usr/bin/cdrdao
chmod u+s,o-x $PKG/usr/bin/cdrdao

chown -R root:root $PKG
chown root:cdrom $PKG/usr/bin/cdrecord
chmod -R u+w,g-w $PKG
chmod u+s,o-x $PKG/usr/bin/cdrecord
This task depends upon

is this cdrom_id rules a replacement for the current cdrom.rules from our udev port, or an addition to it?
Comment by Danny Rawlins (Romster) - Thursday, 15 May 2008, 02:39 GMT
It is a replacement to the existing file in udev, Given it more thought and the whole group should really be called 'optical', since cdrom seems like a silly group name when we have DVD's and soon Blu-Ray's. Oh and setting programs as suid might not be needed since usebits is going to be fully running in kernel 2.6.26.

Agreed, basically. We'd like to keep the group name "cdrom" though. Investigating the proposed changes.

Now or ages ago would of been a good time to add this for the 2.5 release.

I made this due in 2.5, so we can either implement it or close the report.
