Fedora Core has deprecated libusb in favor of libusbx, which is a fork of the libusb project. Upon glancing at the homepage, I am left with a good impression of its merits.

I haven't investigated too deeply, so the core team should do their own testing. It should be a drop-in replacement for libusb, which should ease transition.

As a side editorial -- usually I'm wary of forks. However, Fedora has given in the seal of approval, so that eases my concern.

Even debian is using the libusbx fork, probably we should switch with 3.1 too.

The original libusb project is still alive and active. Currently a rc10 for llibusb 1.0.16 is out and works for me without issues. We should probably stick with libusb.
